About Mrs. Hart

My family in Hutchinson Island, FL. this past May

Hello 5th grade students and families. I am so thrilled to be your teacher this year.

I live in Niskayuna with my husband and two children.  You are probably going to hear a lot of stories about my kids.  Zachary is my oldest.  He is 14 years old and entering 9th grade (high school!) this year.  Lucy is 11 and is entering 6th grade (middle school!).  We love hiking, fishing, bike riding, swimming, reading and just having fun together.

I grew up in Groton, New York, which is a tiny town located in between Cortland and Ithaca.  It was so tiny that I graduated with only 71 other students!  I went to college at SUNY Plattsburgh where I studied elementary education, psychology and journalism.  I then went to graduate school at The College of Saint Rose here in Albany.  I studied Special Education there.  Right after graduating, I got a job as a special education teacher at Lisha Kill Middle School in South Colonie.  I taught in a 6th grade inclusion class for about three years and then made a move to teach a regular 6th grade in the same building.  I taught in South Colonie for 7 years.  After my daughter Lucy was born, I decided I needed to stay home and just by a mommy for awhile.  That turned into 6 years!  I was hired to teach 5th grade at Altamont in the 2011-2012 school year and then taught elementary enrichment the following year. This upcoming year will be my 4th at Westmere Elementary and I love it there!

We're going to have an amazing year together and I can't wait to get started!
